I read on-line that some guys had success painting thier flares with Krylon Fussion paint. It’s a paint made specifically for plastic, and that is what the factory Jeep TJ flares are made of. After coffee this morning I headed out, and found what i was looking for at Kmart, for $4.99 a can!

I started by cleaning the flares with rubbing alcohol to get any oil off of them. As it turns out, that wasn’t quite enough. You REALLY need to wipe them down with lacquer thinner or MEK.. Do NOT use paint “thinner” as that is petroleum (oil) based, not alcohol based.

The end result is “OK”.. It’s a bit more glossy than I would have liked.. Though, with a trip or two through the mud and a few washes it will likely tone down down.. Worst case, I re-paint them with flat back.. It’s still a heck of an improvement for a $4.99 investment.. Now I have to do the bumpers and license plate holder, cause now THEY look like shit.

Last day of “Thanksgiving Weekend” Cavan and I headed to Greenhorn Rd.. Played around in the quarry and stream bed, then found the closed area that was the original “Greenhorn”..

They closed the area down after a kid was killed in a 4×4 accident in 2007

I REALLY wanted to take on one of the ravines, but am pretty respectful of other peoples property when out playing, and there were signs everywhere.

I wanted this picture of MY Jeep.. But Cav was quick to point out that there was no easy way across the creek for “crippled old people that can’t walk”.. He then bounded across the creek and said “yup.. It would be a great picture, would you like me to DRIVE you across the water?”

On his way back across the only thing that comes to mind is FALL you smart ass!

I went and found a way to get my almost perfect picture anyway… and I didn’t need a taxi across the creek!
